Parking Ban in Effect

The New Milford Mayor's office has declared a snow emergency parking ban. Streets that are designated as Snow Emergency Routes will have restricted parking in effect this evening starting at 6:00 PM March 16, 2007. This ban is in effect until it is lifted by the Mayor's office.

The ban was placed to assist the New Milford Public Works Department in their snow removal efforts.

Proprety owners should make an effort to clear the area around near-by fire hydrants. The is important in the event the fire department needs access to the fire hydrant.

It also important for property owners to remember to remove snow from sidewalks within 24 hours after the storm ends per town ordinance.

Restored NorthEast Doppler Page

The National Weather Service recently updated some of it's doppler radar services. After the National Weather Service pulled the plug on some of it's old servers, this site's North East Doppler Radars page was affected and has not been loading the doppler radar images.

After a bit of javascript & CSS experimenting and education, I have finally restored the functionality of this page. It now has more options and works better than before.

The biggest improvement is that the page now has the option of turning different layers on or off. With the layers option, distracting options can be turned off. In addition, this page allows a quick change to different doppler radar sites across the northeast United States. There is also the option of switching between different doppler displays such as reflection, precipitation and storm velocity.

Visit the page by clicking the NE Doppler Radars link on the menu on the right side of this page.

Winter Storm Update 2/14/2007

The Winter storm that started last night at around 10:00 pm caused schools and many businesses to closee on Valentine's Day (February 14). Predictions for this storm ranged from a couple of inches turning into rain to over 1 foot of snow.

The New Milford Weather Center measured a total accumulation of 2.5 inches for this storm. The precipitation that fell here in New Milford was a sleet and freezing rain combination which means that the accumulation was very dense and heavy.

Although highway crews did treat street surfaces prior to the storm and started working on the streets early in the morning, the streets in New Milford were and still are very slippery. Traffic is slow moving and many cars have having difficulty negotiating hills and corners.
